Athletic Facilities Expansion

CHALLENGE

Athletic facilities constructed earlier in the decade were designed to accommodate less than half the number of students currently served. Additional and enhanced locker room facilities are needed, along with expanded facilities for conditioning and athlete rehabilitation, and offices for athletic administration. Public comfort facilities (restrooms, concessions) are needed for our outdoor stadiums, and additional enhancements for Lions Stadium is necessary.

FACTS

  • Student participation has increased with the number of student-athletes more than doubling since existing facilities were designed in 2003-04
  • Locker room facilities do not exist for most student-athletes of sub-varsity teams
  • The student-athlete rehabilitation area is over-crowded, designed to service less than half of the current student-athlete count
  • The weight and conditioning area cannot handle the dramatic increase in the number of student-athletes

SOLUTION

Master planning identified the location of a new athletic building, which will be constructed immediately south of the Upper School, and will include locker room facilities for our outdoor team sports, as well as an expanded weight and conditioning area, athletic administrative space, and public comfort facilities for Lions Stadium. The Field House will be remodeled and expanded to two floors with enhanced locker facilities for our indoor team sports and baseball, along with expanded and enhanced student-athlete rehabilitation areas and coach offices and team rooms. Public comfort areas will be added on the second floor for Graham Field. Home and visitor seating for Lions Stadium will be expanded, along with newly designed and expanded press box facilities. These improvements will be made at an estimated cost of $9.35 million.
